Champagne Celebrations and Food Fights

After witnessing the White Sox win a one game playoff a couple weeks ago (check out my photos on Flickr to the witness the blackout and the celebration), I was reminded of the two things that I think every male adult wishes they could be a part of…the champagne celebration and the food fight. The champagne celebration is so specific to sports that most of us will never get to actually participate in one. Having Ken Griffey Jr. spray my section on September 30th (which will be the only time he does that this year) is probably the closest I will ever come. None of us will ever follow a graduation or wedding or birth of our child with a champagne spray fest…it just seems like something that I would want to be part of.

In the same breath, I would love to be in a huge food fight. I guess this might be the kid in me, but who wouldn’t want to have a large scale food fight where reckless abandon is the norm? Is taht strange? I don’t want this to seem like I want to destroy property but that kind of “fun” is just not attainable to most of us. Although, it might make Christmas dinners with your family more fun…

Pizza Dough Toss

I wasn’t as good as this guy, but one of my most favorite things I learned while in high school was how to turn a ball of dough into pizza crust. Okay, it was at Domino’s, but at least when I worked there, we had to stretch the dough out on the counter, slpa it bewtween in our hands, toss it in the air, and then fit it on the screen. It is one of those things that i could still do if you asked me to…and do it correctly. I just think it is such a cool process and tossing it in the air is a very satisfying experience. I guess that is weird to say, but I guess that is just the Lester Burnham in me talking.

Murderball

No…this is not about the movie. Strangely, it is about a game I used to play when I was a kid that is really dodgeball. I guess I always thought dodgeball was the game you played while lined up againsy a wall, but as a I found out from Wikipedia…dodgeball is murderball. Why do I bring it up? Well, I love games, and this was always one of my favorites. It is simple. It is challenging physcially…you really get your whole body involved. In some ways, it is challenging mentally. Plus, anyone can figure out the rules quick and join in. I know dodgeball has this stigma attached to it where the strong dominate the weak, but I never see it that way. If everyone plays it respectfully (I guess that is a lot to ask), it can be really engaging. and ont all about just hitting people with a ball. I think getting the amount of people on the floor is key. I think 10 (like the movie) is too small, but I have seen games where there are like 75 people and that is too large. If each side has 10 people, that makes it interesting to me. I miss it…
