Posted on June 10th, 2010 No commentsI am beginning to collect Math Student Reference Books and Science Textbooks. If these books are at home, students should bring them in immediately. If students do not return their books, they will get a letter on Monday explaining how much they owe. Also, students need to turn in library books. If students have missing library books, they will not be able to get their report card next week.
If students have not turned in their science notebook or their unit 7 test, they need to do that tomorrow.

Green Screen
Posted on June 8th, 2010 No commentsJust a quick update on social studies. We will be trying to finish our Chicago history videos during the last few days of school. Above, you can see some students using a green screen to record their video. They will act out something in front of the screen and then change the background when they edit the video. It is a very cool process, and the students are learning a lot about the skills needed to create a video.
Also, we had the unit 7 math test today. It will be graded this evening and returned tomorrow.
Have a great evening!

The main concepts for this unit are order of operations and adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers. Tomorrow, students are allowed to use a slide rule or positive and negative counters on the test. They may not use a calculator.
Students needed to turn in their science notebooks today. If they turn it in late, I will not be accepting any notebooks after Friday.
Also, all of the assignments I plan to grade are already listed in Gradebook.

Volunteer Field Trip
Posted on June 3rd, 2010 No comments

We had an excellent time on our field trip today. The students were split into two groups in order to go to two different senior citizen housing facilities. First, the students made breakfast and served breakfast to the tenants. Then, the students played many of rounds of Bingo with the tenants and learned more about their lives by playing a scavenger hunt game. Above, you can see a few pictures from our trip. I am very proud of the work they did today, and I hope they see this as an opportunity to continue the act of service in their community in the future.
The unit 7 review is due on Monday. The students were given it today so they could avoid having homework over the weekend. The unit 7 test is on Tuesday.
Have a great evening!
