Third Quarter Conferences
Posted on March 11th, 2010 No commentsI know this is a few weeks away, but I have a signup sheet for third quarter conferences outside of my classroom. The conference date is Wednesday, April 21st. If you would like to meet with me, please sign up for one of the 10 minute time slots. I will be available from 10:00 to 11:30, 12:00 to 3:00, and 4:00 to 6:15.
For 218, students need to return the progress report envelope signed by Friday. Also, they were given a field trip slip for the Smart Explorers program yesterday. Students should return these by tomorrow as well.
The math homework tonight is Study Link 5-10. I am still planning to give a quiz on unit 5 next Tuesday.
Tomorrow, the students will take a quiz on levers in science. Students are able to use all of their notes and worksheets during the quiz. The assignment we worked on this week, Levers at Work, will be the most helpful for them.
Have a great evening!

Progress Reports Going Home Today
Posted on March 10th, 2010 No commentsProgress reports are coming home today. Please sign the envelope and have your child return it tomorrow. Also, the students will be receiving the results for their winter benchmark, a letter about the activity fee, and a field trip slip for our trips to the Smart Museum and Hyde Park Art Center as part of the Smart Explorers program in April. One note about these field trips, we will be taking a total of five trips and will walk to both locations. If you are able to chaperone for any of the dates, please let me know.
The math homework tonight is Study Link 5-9. Looking ahead, the students will have a quiz Tuesday on unit 5. Plus, I am planning on having a test Wednesday, March 24th on unit 5.
In science, we will have a quiz on levers this Friday. The students will be able to use their notes and assignments during this quiz. The students will be given pictures of real world items, and they will need to draw a diagram that corresponds to the lever in the picture.
Have a great evening!

ISAT Testing has Finished
Posted on March 9th, 2010 No commentsWe took the final ISAT test today. The only reason a student would take a test tomorrow, Thursday, or Friday is if they missed a test last week or this week.

Second Week of Testing
Posted on March 8th, 2010 No commentsWe only have two tests this week. The students took a math test today, and they will have another math test tomorrow. If students were absent at all during testing, they will take the make-up exams on either Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. Also, we are in need of juice, fruit, bagels, and cream cheese for our breakfast tomorrow morning. If you are able to provide that for us, please let me know at jkmills@cps.edu.
The math homework tonight is Study Link 5-7.
Also, the students will have a quiz in science on Friday about levers. They will be allowed to use their notes and any worksheets we completed in class. We will discuss the quiz in class this week.
Finally, progress reports will go home on Wednesday. The students will also get their winter benchmark results. Please keep a look out for these on Wednesday.
Have a great evening!

ISAT Testing is Under Way
Posted on March 2nd, 2010 No commentsThe students had their first ISAT test this morning. From what I can tell, it went very well. We will have a test every morning through next Tuesday. If students miss a day, they will make tests up between next Wednesday and Friday. Students will take their first ISAT math test on Friday. If they do not already have one, students should have a calculator for those tests. Also, students should have an independent reading book so they have something to do when they finish their test.
The math homework is Study Link 5-5. It is due on Thursday.
Have a great evening!

ISAT Testing Starts Tuesday
Posted on February 26th, 2010 No commentsWe are as ready as we are going to be at this point for ISAT testing. If students need extra help in math, they can use the ISAT workbook, practice tests, or Study Island. We will be providing a small breakfast every day there is testing next week. Thanks in advance to all of the parents who have helped with this effort.
I am posting this before the African-American History Fair, so I will have to post early next week about the fair and the performances. Above, you will see some examples of the African-American Report Cards that are now hanging outside of the classroom. On the inside, the students evaluated each person on five categories and gave them a grade. If you did not get a chance to see them during the fair, they will be hanging there for a few weeks.
Have a relaxing, long weekend!
