I would assume most artists/illustrators/designers want their next piece to always be their best. I think that is a not so simple yet achievable goal. I certainly think I achieved it this time around. For the most part, I’m happy to have the work speak for itself. It is the culmination of an idea that started many years. Only recently, did I feel like I had the skills to match my vision. I expect this will be my last Chicago landscape illustration. After completing this work and Chicago 2010, I’ve drawn what I’ve wanted to draw in this format. If I am going to do another landscape-type work, it has to be a completely different approach. I would want it to be more figurative than literal.
Looking forward, I’d like this work to be the center of The Chicago Collection, a selection of Chicago prints that I plan to get made in early 2013. I think it will look great printed out and would be a great piece to sell at art shows, festivals and online.
