The new illustration is ready to go! I did something a little different with my planning this time. In the past, I would do the basic planning on paper, get started on the computer, and return to paper to do individual portions. I would use the computer to determine spacing, size, and placement. I guess you could say I got comfortable with this way of working. Since my illustrations tend to take some time because I am not working on it day and night, I like to let ideas sit in my head before I insert them into my work. After seeing how other people work, I’m not sure if this is a sustainable way of illustrating. I need to show what I am going to do before I begin the finished work. Plus, I want to make it a point to make work in the future that is more cohesive.
So, allow me to introduce the sketch for tree fort. Basically, it is a bunch of kids having an imaginary battle in the middle of an elaborate world of tree forts. (I’ve noticed a lot of my work returns to kids having fun.) I still have a few ideas up in the air, but the major and minor decisions have been made…I’m only talking details here. Since I have another idea that is a slight departure from my other work, I will be making another drawing in the coming week and working on the two pieces simultaneously.
