Yes and yes, here is the final New York illustration. If you’d like to see a few detailed portions, click here. I’ve made many posts about the direction I took with this poster, but I feel like I need to do it once more. After doing posters for Chicago and Sydney, it was hard to ignore New York City. Yet, I wanted to give it my own spin. So, instead of just making it all about the landmarks and icons of New York, I wanted to pay homage to the birth of hip-hop and the 4 elements (DJing, MCing, breakdancing, and graffiti). Yes, I have the Statue of Liberty, but I also have DJ Kool Herc working the turntables during one of his famous house parties. And since the beginning of hip-hop took place during the 1970’s, I made sure to include many fashions during this era and pop culture references. (How many Saturday Night Live characters can you pick out?) I’m not sure what I want to exactly do with this illustration, but for now, I’m breathing a sigh of relief after completing another successful personal project.
