One of the aspects of this poster I knew I needed to tackle was a street scene. Basically, I was going to have a part of the poster not anchored by a building or structure. It would only be people. My concern going into it was that it would look too planned. Visually, it can be easier to put every person into their own space almost like they are surrounded by a bubble. The only problem with that is that it looks unnatural. So, it was important that while some people have their own space, I was going to need some interaction amongst the people in the street. As it turned out, the fire hydrant geyser helped to tie a lot of the people together without being overpowering. Plus, I have the guy dumping water on his friend, a guy dragging a girl into the geyser, and Steve Martin playing double dutch…over course. I definitely like how this looks, but it only works because it is only one part of the entire illustration.
