If you would have told me in January that I would be this far with the Sydney poster by the end of May, I would have figured elves worked on it while I slept. Actually, I have been able to do a lot in the evening when I would normally be sleeping. Plus, I have found that doing detailed drawings speeds up the illustration process significantly. Once I sit down at the computer, the placement decisions have already been made for me, so I just need to worry about color. So, I have finished the Opera House. I decided that I did not want to go overboard with trying to shade everything just right. With many of the other buildings, I use a 3-color process…light, medium, and dark. The Opera House is not a flat white, but I think that is the perception. As you can see, I decided to accentuate that perception by making the curved pieces all white and ditch any kind of shading.
Also, I have finished Bondi Beach and I even added my first two people…the sunbather and the surfer. The surfer brought up an interesting design decision. When dealing with water, I can never decide to go really simple or get every droplet. For now, I’m going to stay simple and see how I feel. The cool thing about surfing is how much the water explodes all over. For my surfer, it is not that evident. I’m going to stick with it now, and see how I feel after I have all of the buildings done.
And, you can see that I have decided to do some advertising on the graffiti…I do need to do more of that.
