One of the themes explored by Micropop artists is the use of child-like images and techniques. I think Makiko Kudo exemplifies that style. Her work has a youthful sensibility yet not juvenile. It seems to explore adult themes through the use of simplified figures and objects. The above painting is striking since real emotion is conveyed through the girl yet it is done subtley. The colors are still bold, but they do not overpower the artwork. The work is created in oil paint, but it has a collage effect. The areas of color could be solid or textured paper.
