I recently got back from Japan, so I will be posting about the artists I saw while visiting the museums around the city. Since the whole area was “new” to me, I hope to talk about artists that are new to the rest of the world.
The first artist is Kamino Kousakujo. I actually saw her work at the gift shop at the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art. She makes these very intricate paper figures. They come packaged flat and then you have to put them together yourself. I wish I could explain just how tiny these figures are. They almost seemed microscopic. The picture above does not do the scale justice. It is amazing how much detail is captured.
