I’ve been meaning to post about this group of illustrators/artists but I always decided to post something else. Well, the Scrawl Collective has just updated their web site, so I figured this was a great time to dicuss their work. One of the main reasons I like their work is their hand drawn aesthetic.
From the very beginning the guiding principle was about favouring the hand made and amateur approach over the slick mac based graphics that were at that time everywhere. They took the phrase Hand B4 Mouse as their motto.
The line work is excellent and a lot of their designs have a lot of movement and make your eye continually move throughout each piece. I’ve always felt that visual movement is one of the more underrated art principles. Just check the mural on the main page as an example of this style. While I love computer-based graphics, it is always important to never lose touch with what pencil and paper can create.
